Annette Bening joins Andy Samberg in new rom com 42.6 Years
Andy Samberg and Annette Bening are set to star in upcoming romantic comedy 42.6 Years.
Andy Samberg will star opposite Annette Bening in 42.6 Years.
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor was originally set to appear with Hacks star Jean Smart in the romantic comedy when it was first announced in 2023, but he now has a new castmate.
As reported by Deadline, Samberg, 47, and Nyard's Bening, 67, will lead the flick.
The movie will now by helmed by Michael Schwartz, who is replacing previous director Craig Gillespie.
The movie has also shifted from Amazon MGM Studios to Focus Features.
The movie has been written by The Menu scribe Seth Reiss, who created the story with Samberg.
It follows Ben (Samberg), who has been cryogenically frozen for 42.6 years following an experimental procedure.
When he awakes, he looks to reconnect with his ex-girlfriend Ruthie (Bening), but while he hasn't aged a day, she has lived a whole lifetime without him.
Last year, Samberg appeared in The Roses as Barry, while lending his voice to Pawbert Lynxley in Zootropolis 2, and Stewie in the English dub of Arco.
He starred in The Roses with fellow Saturday Night Live alum Kate McKinnon, while Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch took the lead as warring married couple Ivy and Theo Rose in a loose adaptation of Warren Adler's anti-romance novel The War of the Roses.
Colman previously admitted she was in awe of the way the SNL stars were able to improvise on set.
She told the SmartLess podcast: “We were talking about this, Benedict and I, we’re very much (like), ‘Tony McNamara’s written it and our job is to do the script.’
"It’s fairly boring of us. But then you’re in a room with Andy Samberg and Kate McKinnon, for example, and you go, ‘Oh, f***, I can’t do that. I don’t think I can do that.’
"I think: 'Know your strengths, know your limits'. I’m so thrilled to have seen them do what they do.”
Next year, Samberg set to voice Ben Reilly and his alter ego Scarlet Spider in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Oscar-nominated actress Bening has recently been seen in the likes of Apples Never Fall and The Bride!, while her upcoming projects include Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch, and AppleTV crime thriller Lucky.
