Mia Goth and Andrew Scott are to star in Fonda.

The Frankenstein actress and the All of Us Strangers actor will lead the cast of Anatomy of a Fall filmmaker Justine Triet's full English-language debut movie, with Urchin's Frank Dillane and Candyman actor Nathan Stewart-Jarrett also signing up for the thriller.

In addition, Oscar-winning actress Allison Janney is also in talks for a key role, Deadline reports.

According to the outlet, Mia was originally earmarked for a supporting role in the ensemble piece but impressed the director so much, she was offered the lead, and both Andrew and Allison will also have bigger parts.

Further casting is still to be announced, with shooting set to begin in the spring,

The project is expected to be one of the hottest pre-sale titles at Berlin's upcoming European Film Market, and will see the writer-and-director reunite with her Anatomy of a Fall producers Marie-Ange Luciani and David Thion.

An official synopsis for the film, which was also written by the director, states: "A psychological thriller set in a seemingly idyllic huis clos, Fonda takes us on a vertiginous dive into the shifting limits of a sound mind, as grief and obsession take hold."

Fionnuala Jamison, Managing Director of mk2 Films, who are handling sales, said: “Fonda promises to bring audiences another major cinematic moment by delving into the depths of the human mind and resurfacing as a thriller of rare intelligence and emotional force destined to be a top awards contender and box office hit.

“We’re thrilled to be embarking on this new journey with the Anatomy of a Fall team and to have Studiocanal on board.

Studiocanal CEO and Canal+ CCO Anna Marsh added: “Justine Triet’s cinematic work is incomparable, and in Fonda our cast is exceptional. We cannot wait to bring this film to audiences across our territories announced today. The moment we read the script we just knew we had to be part of what will be Justine Triet’s unforgettable and formidable return to cinema.”

Mia has a busy time ahead, as she has recently been working on Sir Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic The Odyssey, which she has hailed as “one of the greatest experiences of [her] life”.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, she said: “That was one of the greatest experiences of my life. It really was. It was profound.

“I’ve been such a fan of his work for years. And so to have that opportunity and to witness him and how he directs was incredible. I took a lot from that. The trust that he has in actors was enlightening.”

The 32-year-old actress was also quizzed on her role in director Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter - in which she features alongside Ryan Gosling, Amy Adams and Matt Smith - but kept her lips sealed.

She said: “I really can’t talk much about that at the moment, but I had the most incredible time and I absolutely adore Shawn Levy.

“I think he’s electric and he’s got such an energy to him. Working with him was some of the most fun I’ve had.”
