Alone in the Dark is getting rebooted
Uwe Boll is creating a reboot of Alone in the Dark.
Uwe Boll is rebooting Alone in the Dark.
The 60-year-old director adapted the horror action video game series into a critically-acclaimed feature film in 2005, which starred Christian Slater (Edward Carnby) and Tara Reid (Aline Cedrac).
Unlike the 2005 movie, the follow-up - which follows private detective Edward Carnby's fight against the undead - will be closer to the original game and follow the story of the 2024 release.
It comes as Boll´s Event Films has optioned the film rights to Alone in the Dark from publisher THQ Nordic.
Boll told The Hollywood Reporter: "We will capture the spirit and the era of the original games and follow the story of the new game.
"We can´t wait to reboot the franchise and cast our new Edward Carnby.”
Last year's game is set in the 1920s and takes place inside Derceto Manor, located in the gothic American South.
Players take on the roles of Edward Carnby and Emily Hardwood, and the duo's mission is to unravel the disappearance of Emily’s uncle, whilst diving deep into the manor's dark past.
To uncover the truth, gamers need to solve puzzles and deal with terrifying entities that inhabit the manor.
As well as film of Alone in the Dark - which has generated seven games that have sold millions of copies globally - the outlet reports that Boll and his production partner Michael Roesch, 51, are "looking to develop the franchise into a TV series".
Boll became a key figure amongst video game fans in the early 2000s when he made adaptations of 2008's Far Cry, 2007's In the Name of the King, 2005's BloodRayne, and 2003's House of the Dead.
The Hollywood Reporter also states that Boll and Roesch are "working on Return to Zombie Island", which is a "sequel to House of the Dead, which picks up with characters from the original movie, 23 years on", and will see "all the original cast return".
House of the Dead's cast includes Ellie Cornell (Jordan Casper), Jonathan Cherry (Rudy Curien) and Jurgen Prochnow (Captain Victor Kirk).
