Daisy Ridley gives positive update on her Star Wars spin-off movie
Daisy Ridley has insisted development on 'Star Wars: New Jedi Order' is "all good" after recent reports suggested the movie had been cast into production hell.
Daisy Ridley has insisted 'Star Wars: New Jedi Order' is alive and well.
Recent reports suggested the project has been thrown into production purgatory at Lucasfilm, but the 32-year-old actress – who is set to reprise her role as Rey Skywalker in 'New Jedi Order' – has now insisted there are no issues with the project going on behind the scenes.
In an interview with City AM, Ridley said: "Of course I’m really excited to film and I’m really excited to share developments with the world. It’s all good, it really is!"
The 'Young Woman and the Sea' star – who played Rey in J.J. Abrams' 'The Force Awakens' and 'The Rise of Skywalker, and Rian Johnson's 'The Last Jedi' – added she was having discussions with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about getting more involved with the project behind the camera.
She explained: "All of those conversations are positive and happening. Certainly in the producorial way I don’t know that I will be that involved, but what has been amazing was creatively Kathy told me the idea for the story which is great and I’ve been over all of the developments.
"So, I feel more consciously involved [than before] but I remember various things either J.J. or Rian told me, so I was always really made to feel involved.
"But on this one I’m aware of the route development. It’s also really nice to know that we have the time to do it right."
Rumours about 'New Jedi Order's supposed production problems ramped up last month when Disney removed a 'Star Wars' film from its 2026 release schedule, and replaced it with 'Ice Age 6'.
In October, screenwriter Steven Knight – who had previously worked on the BBC drama 'Peaky Blinders' – reportedly left the project, with it being said at the time that Disney was actively searching for a replacement.
Aside from the drama surrounding 'New Jedi Order', Ridley also commented on the possibility of her husband Tom Bateman - who she produced her recent thriller 'Magpie' with - serving as a producer on the flick, though the actress was quick to shoot that idea down.
She said: "That’s actually funny, I got a text from my friend the other day saying this … But I can categorically say that he’s not going to be involved. That would be hilarious. I mean that would be a story."
While her husband may not be producing 'New Jedi Order', Ridley teased Bateman knew "the whole story" of the film.
She shared: "He knows the whole story, it’s nice to share that. To be honest that’s something I haven’t really done before, I always took it incredibly seriously that I was not telling anyone, but now I feel he can know."
'Star Wars: New Jedi Order' – which will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy – takes place 15 years after the events of 'The Rise of Skywalker' and follows Rey as she attempts to rebuild and train the next generation of the galaxy's guardians.
