Daisy Ridley taking on terrifying new role
The British actress will lead a supernatural thriller alongside Sosie Bacon and Simon Rex, with filming scheduled for 2027, as she also prepares for a potential return to the Star Wars franchise.
Daisy Ridley is preparing to take on a terrifying new role – playing a woman whose unexpected pregnancy takes a sinister turn in a horror film that will see her fighting for survival alongside her sister.
The British actor, 34, best known for playing Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, will star alongside Sosie Bacon, 34, and Simon Rex, 52, in Get Rid of It, a new feature directed by Ry Russo-Young, 44.
Filming is scheduled to begin in early 2027, with the project being introduced to international buyers at the American Film Market by Upgrade, CAA Media Finance and Range Select.
The film follows Harper, played by Daisy, who discovers she is pregnant after a one-night stand with a mysterious drifter named Miller, portrayed by Simon.
Harper subsequently embarks on a cross-country road trip with her sister Jessie, played by Sosie, but the journey becomes increasingly dangerous when the pair discover that the unborn child may not be human.
The screenplay has been written by Gemma Holdway, whose story combines elements of supernatural horror with the relationship between two sisters forced to confront an extraordinary threat.
Discussing the project, Ry said: “Propulsive and playful, this project’s strength is its compelling point of view and heart beneath the horror. I’m thrilled to bring it to life with such an extraordinary and gifted group of collaborators.”
The film will be produced by David Lancaster, whose previous credits include the Oscar-winning drama Whiplash, for which he received a best picture Academy Award nomination, as well as Nightcrawler and Drive.
For Daisy, the role marks another move into darker material following her performance in the zombie thriller We Bury the Dead, directed by Zak Hilditch.
She is also set to appear opposite Johnny Depp, 63, in Ti West's forthcoming film Ebenezer, a new adaptation of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol.
Daisy previously starred in the biographical sports drama Young Woman and the Sea, directed by Joachim Rønning, in which she portrayed American swimmer Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim across the English Channel.
However, she remains most closely associated with the role of Rey, the Force-sensitive scavenger who became one of the central characters in Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars sequel trilogy.
She made her debut in the franchise in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, before reprising the role in The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.
Daisy has also been attached to a planned return as Rey in a further Star Wars film exploring the rebuilding of the Jedi Order, although the project has undergone development changes since it was first announced.
The planned return of Rey has remained a subject of discussion among Star Wars fans since Lucasfilm announced a standalone film centred on the character in 2023.
The project, which has been linked to director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, 47, is expected to explore Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order following the events of The Rise of Skywalker.
However, the film has experienced several development changes, and Daisy suggested earlier this year that audiences might have to wait until 2027 for further news.
Recent reports have also suggested that Lucasfilm is prioritising other Star Wars projects, including a new trilogy being developed by Simon Kinberg, although Daisy's involvement in those films has not been officially confirmed.
