Aaron Taylor-Johnson wants his Kraven the Hunter to fight Spider-Man
Aaron Taylor-Johnson is hopeful Kraven the Hunter will go "toe-to-toe" with some of Marvel's best superheroes and definitely with Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson wants Kraven the Hunter to go "toe-to-toe" with Spider-Man and some of Marvel's other big superheroes.
The 34-year-old actor stars as the anti-hero in Sony's upcoming superhero flick – which is part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe, which is separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – and he is interested in facing off against iconic characters that audiences know and love, such as Tom Holland's Spidey.
In an interview with Screen Rant, he said: "I mean, it's very much the question to everyone else really, right? Because I think what we've done, what we've set up in this story is a really rich character that definitely has the legs to go on and do more damage.
"I think he should go toe-to-toe with some superheroes that we know."
The 'Bullet Train' star added he had studied Marvel Comics' 2006 story 'Kraven's Last Hunt' to prepare to play the character, and he wanted to channel the character's "dark demons" that are present in the source material for his performance.
He explained: "One of my favourite stories is 'Kraven's Last Hunt'. It was one of the source materials I used to go back from.
"He's got some dark demons there and we are basically showing the birth of that and how he becomes a villain that we then come to know."
'Kraven the Hunter' follows the young huntsman and his tenuous relationship with his father (Russell Crowe), which ultimately sets him down a path of vengeance as he seeks to become the most feared hunter the world has ever seen.
The 'Kick-Ass' star teased fans wouldn't be disappointed by the film, and added 'Kraven the Hunter' has "all the beats that you want and more".
He said: "So really come see this movie, man. Come see this movie. I promise you it won't disappoint. It's got all the beats that you want and more.
"I think it could be an audience’s sort of villain favourite, definitely go toe-to-toe with some other people down the line, man."
Taylor-Johnson's comments echo that of his director J.C. Chandor, who said 'Kraven the Hunter' would "surprise the hell" out of moviegoers.
Speaking with Deadline, he said: "I’m extremely proud of the work we have all done together on 'Kraven', and when the movie finally gets its chance to be seen I think it’s gonna surprise the hell out of a lot of people.
"As for what’s next for me, as always that’s up to the moviemaking gods."
The filmmaker has also commented on the possibility of Kraven coming to blows with Spider-Man, though stressed he had focused on telling "a good damn story" before moving onto "fun things" such as crossovers with other characters.
Chandor told ComicBook.com: " I think they’ll realize that we’ve done everything we can to give them a pretty fun story. You’ll see when the movie’s over, there’s potential for a lot of things to happen.
"But my goal was to isolate our movie, protect it, and just tell a good damn story. And then we’ll have opportunities to do a lot of fun things."
