Jennifer Kent has revealed a sequel to ‘The Babadook’ is unlikely.

The beloved horror movie - which stars Essie Davis, Daniel Henshall and Hayley McElhinney - is celebrating its 10th anniversary but its 55-year-old director has admitted there probably won’t be a follow-up flick because she is "too involved" with other projects.

When Screen Rant asked Kent if a sequel was on the table, she said: "No, I think I'm too involved in other films that I'm trying to get made.

"I mean, if there suddenly became some desperate urge to tell a story related to that, I would probably say, ‘Okay, all bets are off. I'm going to go and make the sequel.’ But I just can’t see that happening. I feel that the idea has really been explored."

‘The Nightingale’ director then teased she was currently working on some horror projects for both the big and small screen.

She said: "There are other sort of scary films in the wings, one in particular that I’m really invested in happening, and also a horror series that I’ve been developing, which I'm really excited about as well. So those ideas are taking over."

To mark ‘The Babadook’s 10th anniversary, the picture is due to return to cinemas in U.S. for a limited run from Thursday (19.09.24), and the director emphasised that she is "enormously grateful" to see how popular her film has become.

She told Variety:"I’m incredibly fortunate that my first film was remembered. It’s being shown on 500 screens 10 years on, whereas when it started, it was on two.

"I feel enormously grateful to that film. I don’t tend to look back once I’ve finished a film. It’s done. I put everything I have into it and I want to move forward. So I haven’t thought that much about it, but I’m really grateful."
