Domino Kirke wasn't able to grieve second miscarriage until 'months later'
Domino Kirke, the wife of You star Penn Badgley, took to her Instagram page on Friday (04.09.26) to admit it took her some time to come to terms with her second pregnancy loss.
Penn Badgley’s wife Domino Kirke was only able to grieve following her second miscarriage when she was teaching doula training “months later”.
Domino, the sister of Girls star Jemima, is a professional birth doula and co-founder of Carriage House Birth, which offers support and care to pregnancy women.
She’s also a mother of four - three of whom she had with You star Penn - but took to her Instagram page on Friday (04.09.26) to admit it took her some time to come to terms with her second pregnancy loss, which happened in her second trimester.
Alongside a selfie, Domino wrote: “After an awful D C procedure, I went home to recover for a few days, plodded around on the piano… and went to support someone giving birth just a few days after that, still bleeding.
“Now, if you’re reading this and you’re thinking, ‘So? I would totally do that. Gotta pay the bills!’ then I’m glad you’re here.
“I used to think there was something weak about working in partnership. Sure, I had ‘community,’ but did I call on them for more than a quick catch up? No. I was a super hero, who crawled around in the night, high on my own supply and the adrenaline of birth, saving mothers and babies no matter what. It cost me my health (autoimmune disease), friendships, my relationship with my child and husband.
“The list goes on. Not even my own grief could stop me. Actually, back then, that's why I behaved this way - I couldn’t be with my grief.
“It wasn’t til i was teaching a doula training many months later that I had to excuse myself and sob quietly in the bathroom for the first time since the procedure.”
Domino continued to write that grief and trauma will “always follow you and come out sideways”, adding: “It's only a matter time”.
She concluded: “You deserve to do this work with a solid foundation of support and skills so that you can sustain yourself in it.
“Our clients deserve to be held by adults who have many tools in their basket, because the impact caregivers make on their clients is truly lifelong.”
Domino’s admission comes after Penn said he and his wife nearly split after their second miscarriage, due to the “gravity” of the heartbreak.
Speaking on the Totally Booked with Zibby podcast, Penn said: "But I mean, especially for us, me at that point not having any biological children and my wife having her firstborn... that was a real inflection point.
“One of the greatest of my life and my wife's because we did near separation, and of course, we didn't give into the gravity of that and the sort of entropy of that.
"And here we are with three biological children since."
