Jenna Ortega admits Wednesday sometimes 'peeks out' into her own personality
Wednesday star Jenna Ortega has moments where her dark character "peeks out a bit more" in her own personality.
Jenna Ortega feels like Wednesday Addams "peeks out" into her own personality after a lot of time on set.
The 23-year-old actress will be returning in the title role for the third season of Netflix hit Wednesday, which first aired in 2022 with a second season following last year, and she has opened up about how much she shares in common with the dark and brooding character.
She told Esquire magazine: "We mesh pretty well.
"But while I’m in production, going over scripts over and over again, and I’m there all day, every day, and in every scene...
"Yeah, there’s times where I think like her Maybe she peeks out a bit more, here and there.”
As well as Wednesday, which is expected to return later in 2027, Jenna has appeared in a range of roles in recent years, from blockbuster franchises like Beetlejuice and Scream, to the likes of Miller's Girl and Death of a Unicorn.
Her upcoming projects include sci-fi fantasy movie The Great Beyond and Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun, and the star is keen to keep experimenting.
She said: "I’ve been in this experimental phase. she says. “It’s only been in the last year or so — especially with the show coming to a head and getting ready to enter this next chapter in my life and career — that I’ve really honed in.
"I’ve seen some things now. I’ve tried some things. Now it’s important to me to be focused on stories and characters that I feel truly connected to.”
After rising to fame as a child star, Jenna insisted she doesn't have any regrets as such, although she has learned things the hard way at times.
She added: "One hundred percent, yeah. I don’t know if I can ever categorise anything as a mistake. Good or bad, you’re going to learn from it.”
And she's grateful for those experiences, as she's been able to grow and figure out who she is as a person.
She said: "I’ve gotten such a better understanding of who I am as a person and what I want from the world.
"I wouldn’t have been able to get that understanding of my position had I not gone through phases of trial and error.”
