Former NFL star Greg Olsen was stunned when Tom Cruise sought him out at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding to compliment his hat.

The retired sportsman - who co-founded Tight End University with the Kansas City Chiefs player - was among the 1,000 guests at the couple's star-studded wedding at New York's Madison Square Garden on Friday (03.07.26) and while he was in awe of some of the celebrities circulating in the room, he had a particularly memorable encounter with the Top Gun actor.

Lifting the lid on attending the "event of the century", Greg - who wore a wide-brimmed black hat and dark grey tuxedo jacket - told listeners of his Youth Inc. podcast: "It’s hard to really put into words the people that you would see in line in the bathroom and people you would see in line at the bar.

“You’re kind of like, ‘What am I even doing here? What is this circle?’ "

During the cocktail hour before the ceremony, Greg was walking out of the bathroom when he heard a man call out: “Hey, hey… dude, I love your hat.”

He continued: “I was like, ‘Thank you, man. How nice is it to meet you, Tom Cruise.'

“And like, you know, you’re walking out of the bathroom with Tom Cruise and he goes out of his way to compliment your hat and then you have a two or three-minute conversation, amongst a million other people and athletes and entertainers and musicians.”

The 41-year-old sportscaster - who was accompanied to the celebrations by wife Kara - reassured listeners he had washed his hands before meeting Tom.

He laughed: “I did wash my hands, thankfully, before I shook his hand. But that was kind of a like a ‘did I just shoot the s*** with Tom Cruise?’”

Greg praised Taylor and Travis for instigating a phone ban at the wedding because it meant all of their guests - which included the likes of Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper, Sabrina Carpenter, Tom Hanks, Dua Lipa, Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt, Hugh Grant, Reese Witherspoon and Sir Paul McCartney - felt happy and relaxed enough to mingle.

He said: “They’re just happy to connect, introduce themselves.

“Some people know each other, some people don’t know each other. So, you know, just a really unique crowd of fun people. But I think the environment that was created — no phones, no cameras — everyone could just be themselves, enjoy the night, enjoy Travis and Taylor.”
