Jorginho clarifies Chappell Roan security guard incident after 'new information'
Brazilian professional footballer Jorginho says Chappell Roan has been "understanding and sympathetic" to his stepdaughter following a "misunderstanding" at a hotel Sao Paulo, Brazil, and he insists the "matter is now closed".
Jorginho says Chappell Roan has been "understanding and sympathetic" to his stepdaughter following a "misunderstanding".
The Brazilian footballer and the Pink Pony Club singer made headlines last month after he claimed his 11-year-old stepdaughter Ada - whose dad is actor Jude Law - was reduced to tears after an "aggressive and intimidating" security guard allegedly accused the youngster of "harassing" Chappell by sneaking a peak at her idol over breakfast at a hotel in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Chappell, 28, has since released a video denying the bodyguard was working on her instruction, and the security guard, Pascal Duvier, has taken "full responsibility for the interactions".
Jorginho has now "set the record straight" on Instagram.
In a lengthy post, he wrote: "I would like to give an update on what happened during Lolla weekend, as we have been seeing and hearing a lot over the past few weeks and felt it was important to clarify everything now that new information has come to light.
"I made my initial statement in the heat of the moment, after hearing that my child and wife had been approached by an adult male security guard in an intimidating way. "I reacted as any father would. My priority is, and always will be, protecting my family, and that is exactly what I did.
I also want to make it clear that the situation unfolded exactly as it was originally described.
"At the time, we acted on the information that was available to us.
"Since then, I have become aware of new information that has changed my understanding of parts of what happened.
"Chappell Roan made a public statement, reached out private to Catherine, and our teams also spoke directly.
"It became clear that she had no knowledge of what took place at breakfast and had not asked anyone to approach them.
"She was understanding and sympathetic to what had happened to our child.
"The security guard himself has since confirmed publicly that he was representing another artist at the hotel at the time.
"While we still do not know what prompted him [the security guard] to approach them, and do not believe an 11-year-old could reasonably be seen as any kind of security threat, it is now clear he was not acting on behalf of Chappell.
"It was, ultimately, a misunderstanding in that respect, and I am glad to set the record straight.
"It is important to me that this is clarified fairly and accurately. I regret the impact that this situation has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine, Ada and our family.
"I will always stand up for my family. But I also know how to recognise when things were not quite what they
seemed at first."
Following the incident, Ada's mother Catherine Harding, who is also known as Cat Cavelli, insisted her daughter "didn't do anything" other than walk close to Chappell's table to take a closer look and see if it was the singer, before returning and saying she wasn't sure.
Jorginho has now thanked fans for their support, and insisted "the matter is closed".
But he also hit out at people carrying out "online attacks" towards anyone over the incident.
He added: "Thank you for the support we have received during this sensitive moment.
"I do, however, want to make one thing very clear: I do not support or encourage hate speech or online attacks from any side. Respect, empathy, and humility are values I carry and teach my family every single day.
"As far as I am concerned, this matter is closed."
A representative for Chappell Roan released a statement last month, insisting the star was not to blame for the incident.
Days later, Duvier wrote on Instagram: "I do not normally address online rumors, but the accusations currently circulating are false and constitute defamation.
"I take full responsibility for the interactions on March 21st. I was at the hotel on behalf of another individual, and I was not part of the personal security team of Chappell Roan.
"The actions I took were not on behalf of Chappell Roan, her personal security team, her management, or any other individuals. (sic)"
