Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly nearing completion of a “Star Wars-themed” underground bunker beneath his California compound.

The co-founder and chief executive of Meta Platforms, 41, is said to have ordered the hideaway to be designed to resemble the tree-dwelling world of the Ewoks from Return of the Jedi.

Mark has spent years expanding his Silicon Valley estate, where he lives with his wife Priscilla Chan and their three children.

According to a report on Friday (03.04.26) by the Daily Mail, neighbours have raised concerns over prolonged construction work at the site, which has involved extensive digging and building.

The project, described by neighbours as a network of basements, is now said to be largely complete, with interior work ongoing.

Mark’s reported underground structure reportedly spans thousands of square feet and forms part of a wider compound that includes recreational facilities such as a pickleball court, swimming pool and entertainment spaces, alongside a 7ft silver statue of Priscilla.

According to the Mail, details of the design suggest the bunker draws inspiration from the Ewok village depicted in the Star Wars universe, with creatives said to be constructing replicas of giant sequoia trees within the underground space.

The trees, native to California and among the largest in the world, are known for their vast trunks and height, and their inclusion has been cited as an indication of the scale of the structure.

Mark’s wider property holdings include a 14,000-acre estate in Hawaii, which is also reported to contain a bunker with its own energy supply and food production capabilities.

The developments come as the tech mogul’s wealth, estimated at $187 billion, was reported to have declined following legal setbacks involving his company.

According to reports, court rulings found the company had caused harm to teenagers, with an appeal expected.

Mark was a student at Harvard University when he conceived the idea of Facebook, the social network he went on to found. He remains its chairman, chief executive and controlling shareholder through Meta Platforms.

He has previously shared his interest in the Star Wars franchise publicly.

In 2015, he posted an image of his daughter dressed as a Jedi, captioning it: “The force is strong with this one.”
