Seth Rogen reveals emotional regret about accepting Catherine O'Hara's Actor Award after her death
The Studio creator and star Seth Rogen has opened up about his emotional tribute to Catherine O'Hara at the Actor Awards.
Seth Rogen wishes he didn't have to accept Catherine O'Hara's Actor Award after her death.
The Studio creator and star made a heartfelt speech at Sunday's (01.03.26) ceremony as he stepped on stage to accept the posthumous prize for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, following his castmate's death age 71 in January.
He described the situation as "very sad", and added to Extra: “Something I wish I didn’t have to do at all, but I’m so happy she won and I know she would have been so proud to win and I know she was very proud of her work on the show and put a lot into it and she respected everyone in that room so much.”
In the speech, he recalled how Catherine would email him before filming with ideas on scenes, but the cast aren't sure they'll carry on the tradition.
Kathryn Hahn added: "I don’t think any of our notes would be better than Catherine's… It’ll just be waste of time."
Speaking on stage, Seth paid tribute to O'Hara's "ability to be generous and kind and gracious" without playing down her own talents.
He said: "I know she would have been honoured to receive this award from her fellow performers, who[m] I know she respected so much. She was such big fans of all of yours.
"I, obviously, have been reflecting on the time I was fortunate enough to spend with her and working with her, and something that I’ve just been marvelling at over the last few weeks was really her ability to be generous and kind and gracious, while never, ever minimising her own talents and her own ability to contribute to the work that we were doing.
"She knew she could destroy, and she wanted to destroy every day on set."
The Studio also triumphed in the best comedy series ensemble category, while Seth won best actor in a comedy series for his role in the Hollywood-centered show, which launched on Apple TV almost a year ago, and has been commissioned for a second season.
The cast cancelled a planned press day last month after O'Hara's death, while Seth had shared an emotional tribute to her on Instagram.
He wrote at the time: "Really don’t know what to say…
"I told O’Hara when I first met her I thought she was the funniest person I’d ever had the pleasure of watching on screen.
"Home Alone was the movie that made me want to make movies. Getting to work with her was a true honour.
"She was hysterical, kind, intuitive, generous… she made me want to make our show good enough to be worthy of her presence in it. This is just devastating.
"We’re all lucky we got to live in a world with her in it. (sic)"
