Hitman 4 will ‘of course’ happen, IO Interactive says
IO Interactive says Hitman 4 is inevitable, but won’t be discussed until the studio ships co-op for World of Assassination.
IO Interactive has confirmed that Hitman 4 will “of course” be made.
The studio has helmed the stealth series since 2016’s Hitman, and while IO is currently focused on their upcoming projects, like the co-op mode for Hitman: World of Assassination, the developer’s boss Hakan Abrak has insisted IO will return to the franchise for a new game.
He told Variety: “Of course there will be more Hitman.
“But right now, I think we need to get to the other side of this year and next year you’ll get more news about Hitman co-op, because I think co-op is a really, really good extension to the universe, and will introduce very interesting mechanics and combinations in World of Assassination.
“But we will, after that, be talking about the next Hitman - because, of course, there’s going to be a next Hitman.”
Abrak called co-op a “really, really good extension to the universe”, teasing new mechanics and player combinations that will refresh the current live game.
IO plans to share more on the mode next year, and only after that will the team start talking publicly about Hitman 4.
The developer’s workload explains the wait, as IO is running three major productions: ongoing support for World of Assassination, the James Bond game 007: First Light - launching March 27, 2026 - and a new multiplayer fantasy IP known as Project Fantasy.
Abrak described the latter as “extremely ambitious… something else than a gun in a suit,” hinting at a creative swing far outside the studio’s usual stealth sandbox.
Still, there’s no financial or creative reason to leave Agent 47 on ice for long.
The Hitman franchise has attracted over 85 million players and sold more than 25 million copies across its lifetime, with more than a million people playing the series every month.
With a dedicated fanbase and massive long-term engagement, a fourth mainline entry is all but guaranteed.
