Meta has officially launched WhatsApp for Apple Watch, giving users the ability to read, reply to, and record messages directly from their wrist without needing an iPhone.

The standalone app marks a major step forward for WhatsApp’s smartwatch presence, bringing it closer in functionality to Apple’s own Messages app.

The new app supports call notifications, full message previews, voice messages, emoji reactions, and chat history access - all secured by WhatsApp’s signature end-to-end encryption.

Users can even type out messages or respond using dictation and voice recordings, with images and stickers now appearing in higher resolution for a smoother media experience.

Until now, Apple Watch owners could only view incoming WhatsApp notifications and send short replies via the system’s built-in notification controls.

The standalone app significantly expands that experience, allowing for deeper interaction and longer message threads directly on the watch display.

WhatsApp for Apple Watch is available for Series 4 or later running watchOS 10 or newer, and Meta says this is “just the start,” promising more features in the coming months - including potential support for richer media, group management, and improved syncing with the iPhone and iPad versions of the app.

The move comes as Meta continues to extend WhatsApp’s cross-platform ecosystem.

Earlier this year, the company launched WhatsApp for Wear OS, giving Android smartwatch users access to similar features.

With Apple Watch now on board, WhatsApp is positioning itself as a universal communication layer across major wearable platforms.
