'Dragon Age: The Veilguard' players won’t require any prior knowledge about the series' previous entries to enjoy the title.

The upcoming RPG will be the latest instalment in BioWare's fantasy franchise, but writer Trick Weekes has now insisted the game will be approachable for both old and new fans alike, even if the title will "reward returning players who remember the lore".

In response to a fan asking if they needed to play 2014's 'Dragon Age: Inquisition' ('DAI') to understand 'The Veilguard', the developer wrote on the social media platform Bluesky: "You can come to the game having never played a 'Dragon Age' game before (or engaged with any of the tie-in stuff) and be fine.

"There are things that reward returning players who remember the lore, but like 'DAI' itself, it's intended to be friendly to new players."

Weekes added key concepts present in 'The Veilguard' that were introduced in previous titles would be delivered through "an on-ramp" approach to ensure new fans didn't feel lost playing the game.

He wrote: "Anything that would require a great memory is brought up with an on-ramp for folks new to the series, so I think you'll be fine."

'Dragon Age: The Veilguard' is due to release on 31 October for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.
