Both personalities are legends in their field and both were shot outside of their homes. In addition, they had previously met their killers, John Lennon had autographed an album for Mark David Chapman a few hours before having his life taken, as recorded in 'The John Lennon Encyclopedia', and Versace had shared some social events with aggressor Andrew Cunanan seven years earlier, as recounted by journalist Maureen Orth in her book 'Vulgar Favors: The Assassination of Gianni Versace Paperback'.
