Coachella Becomes Beychella: Redefining the Festival Stage

In April 2018, Beyoncé became the first Black woman to headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, delivering a performance so culturally dominant that the entire event was universally rebranded by media as Beychella.

However, her live performance monopoly extended far beyond that desert stage during her historic 2018 trifecta.

Later that year, she brought the house down at the City of Hope Gala in Santa Monica, performing a soaring, angelic couture set to raise millions for cancer and diabetes research. Weeks later, she co-headlined the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, executing multi-outfit visual choreography before a stadium crowd of 100,000 people to champion the fight against extreme poverty.
