The Pearl Harbor star stepped away from major Hollywood blockbusters at the peak of his popularity as he didn't want to have his life "swallowed up" by his career.

The 48-year-old actor told The Guardian newspaper in 2024: "I just didn't want my life to be swallowed up by my work.

"And there was a notion at the time you just kind of gave it all up. And you saw what happened to some people back then. They got obliterated by it. I didn't want that for myself."
