The Scottish comedian was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2013 and eventually retired from stand-up performing five years later.

The 83-year-old funnyman later detailed how his life had "changed radically" as a result of the condition.

He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme in 2023: "My life has changed radically.

"I walk with a stick and at airports I have to get a wheelchair. I hate being dependent to that degree and I feel sorry for other people who are in wheelchairs and who have (it) worse than me.

"But it's just a thing I have to put up with."
