Before The Naked Gun hit cinemas, it was born as Police Squad!, a short-lived series on ABC. With only six episodes aired and largely unseen, ZAZ mined it for gags.

Many were reused nearly verbatim - like Frank Drebin crashing into garbage cans or absurd shootouts from point-blank range - while others were reworked.

The series’ overlooked cult status gave the team license to polish old material for the big screen.
