Breakthrough hit

Right before having a hit with 1972's mega-hit 'Piano Man', Joel gained attention for the track 'Captain Jack', which led to him being signed to Columbia Records. 'Piano Man' was penned about his stint playing the instrument at The Executive Room on Wilshire Blvd, in Los Angeles, where he lived before returning to his beloved New York.
