John Boyega got married two years ago and is preparing to welcome his first child into the world.
The Star Wars actor revealed he tied the knot with his mystery partner in a small ceremony and one day he'd love to mark their union with a traditional Nigerian ceremony. He also dropped the bombshell that they are expecting a baby boy, a sibling for his wife's young son.
Speaking to The Guardian newspaper about his jewellery, he said: “Oh yeah, this is my wedding ring. I’ve been married for coming up to two years now...
"This is our very sentimental ring. This is the one we decided to pick up spontaneously because I just wanted the ring on my finger, so we went to Walmart to get this. It was a lovely trip to Walmart. Shout out, Walmart Canoga Park!”
Asked about not having a traditional Nigerian ceremony, he added: “I would love to have a wedding celebration. We both like the idea of celebrating something established, rather than celebrating the entry. And by then, we’ll have to shut Nigeria down!”
The 34-year-old star was then asked about a reference he had made to a child and confirmed: “My baby’s on the way. We got a baby cooking.”
John then confirmed he and his wife are expecting a baby boy and said his life feels "completely fulfilled" because he also has a young stepson.
He added: “So, you know, my life is completely, completely fulfilled in terms of family. It’s been so nice with the timing...
"Us being parents is funny! I just want to make sure I’m present, I’m consistent and full of love.”
The Woman King actor is keen to take some time to be with his family and not prioritise his own career at the moment.
He said: “I’ve tried to as much as possible - especially following periods when I’ve worked a lot - to de-centre my career. There have been certain moments when I’ve known that this is a time for family. Y’know, there’s stuff to do.”
John grew up with two sisters, his care worker mother and Pentecostal minister father in a small flat in South London but didn't realise their family were "poor" until he started secondary school.
He said: “I didn’t know I was poor until I was in year 7. When you’re super-young, you’re not really thinking about that. And then when you get to school, you start to see where you are in the food chain of life, and that’s when you start to compare yourself with other children and other kids.”
