Paul McCartney, 84, says he remembers being born
Paul McCartney was asked by daughter Stella to recall his earliest memory as they were interviewed by Amy Poehler on her Good Hang podcast.
Paul McCartney has claimed he remembers being born - from the colour of the tiles in the hospital to the sound of the forceps “clanging”.
The 84-year-old Beatles star was asked by daughter Stella to recall his earliest memory as they were interviewed by Amy Poehler on her Good Hang podcast.
Paul then replied: “These things, you don’t know if you’ve made it up. But I have this feeling that I kind of remember being born.
“I was born in a place in Liverpool called Walton Hospital, which was a real old Victorian thing; I think it had been something else before a hospital.
“So I kind of remember white tiles, very sort of hygienic white tiles and chrome instruments and a clanging, because I was a forceps birth. They had to pull me out.”
When Amy said she was also a “forceps baby”, Paul admitted: “I don’t know if it’s true.”
Elsewhere in the podcast interview, Paul reflected on his time in The Beatles, the band’s lasting legacy and his thoughts on the kind of music that’s being released these days.
He mused: “Billie Eilish is cool, but I don’t think I’d want to have written her songs. A lot of songs these days are breakup songs, and I’m married!”
“Back in the day, I used to wish I’d written Billy Joel’s Just the Way You Are. I always thought that was the kind of song I felt I could have written.
“Nowadays, some of [the popular songs] are very banal…”
As for what he likes to listen to these days, Paul said he’s become more of a fan of The Beatles as time has gone on.
He laughed: “I’m a fan. The more we go on, I’m a bigger fan. I’m a Beatles fan. I’ll hear something we did and I’ll remember writing it with John, and think, ‘Wow, I was really lucky to sit down and write with someone and he happens to be John Lennon.’ And I think the same for him with me.
“I’ve become more a fan the more I think about them.”
He even tunes in to a radio station that plays The Beatles 24/7.
