The family matriarch passed away on July 16, aged 91, with her death certificate listing acute cardiopulmonary arrest as the immediate cause of her death.
The certificate, obtained by Us Weekly, also listed acute respiratory failure and metastatic lung cancer as contributing factors.
According to the documentation, Mary Jo - known affectionately by friends and family as MJ - was cremated on July 23, with no autopsy performed.
Kris announced her mother’s death in a post on Instagram on July 16, as she wrote: “Today, we said goodbye to my beautiful Mommy MJ.
“There are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me or the heartbreak of having to say goodbye. My mom was the heart of our family. She taught me everything that truly matters … to love your family fiercely, to be kind, to show up for the people you love, and to never take a single moment together for granted.
“She taught us that family is everything. She showed us how to love unconditionally and how to find joy in the little moments. She showed me how to face life’s challenges with resilience and faith. Mom, thank you for every sacrifice you made, every piece of wisdom you shared, and every moment you loved us so completely. I will miss our daily talks, your smile, your laughter… Our hearts are broken, but we find comfort knowing that love like yours never truly leaves us. Your love will live on in our family, in our traditions, in every moment we are together, and in every life you touched.”
Kris also paid tribute to her mother on what would have been her 92nd birthday on July 26, sharing a selection of pictures of herself and MJ and writing: “Happy Heavenly Birthday Mommy. I love you.”
Kris’ daughter Kim Kardashian also remembered her grandmother on her birthday, again sharing a slew of snaps and writing: “Happy Heavenly 92nd Birthday grandma! It’s only been a week but wow the amount of things I’ve learned about you this week from going through all of your stuff with mom has been beautiful! I thought I knew it all!”
Kim added that all the things she’s learned about her late relative in the past week makes her “respect you and love you more if that’s even possible”.
She concluded: “I miss you like crazy and I love you endlessly my sweet grandma MJ.” Meanwhile, Kim’s sister Kourtney used the occasion to post her tribute to MJ, sharing pictures of herself with her grandma over the years on Instagram and writing: “My grandma MJ.
“There’s not even the right words i could even use to tell anyone about her and I…or to describe her and really capture it because it’s just such a special feeling ingrained in the being of who I am - of my whole childhood and life. “It’s Halloween, it’s Christmas, it’s the ocean, it’s tea and gingerbread cookies and just the warmest feeling in the world.” She continued to say she’s “so thankful” for having her grandmother, for “the way she loved me and for being a safe place”, adding: “I will miss hearing all the stories of her fabulous life.”
Kourtney concluded her post by writing: “Happy heavenly birthday our angel.”
