Oliver Tree’s mother has revealed what she spoke to her son about in their last conversation before his tragic death.
The 32-year-old musician was one of six victims of a helicopter collision in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June (26).
His mother Christine Begin Nickell was one of the speakers at a memorial event in California on Saturday (25.07.26), and told the crowd that she’d sent him a text message the day before the crash to ask how he was getting on in his bid to quit smoking, adding that he’d “promised he would give it up once he was on tour”.
Christine said: “He FaceTimed me immediately and let out a huge puff of cigarette smoke in my face - but he was so happy and excited about life that day.”
She added that Oliver had been excited to travel to a mountain top house where he was planning “to make TikToks and music with his friends”, and said he “loved having epic days - each one more memorable than the last”.
Clips of the celebration of life event were shared on Oliver’s YouTube page, showing the speeches and musical performances that were staged to remember the late musician.
Logan Paul was one of the famous faces at the memorial, and described Oliver as “everyone’s best friend”, calling him an “adventurer with an incomparable zest for life and the ultimate ability to make anyone feel seen and heard”.
He continued: “Oliver is a generational artist whose legacy and music will last forever, and he’d be proud of all of us for keeping our heads up high by celebrating the impact of his time here on Earth, because at the end of the day, life goes on.”
Oliver’s team revealed in a post on his official Instagram account on June 22 that his body had been flown back to California, writing: “Rest in peace Oliver Tree Nickell. Your legacy will live on forever.
“Oliver is now back in California where he can finally rest.”
It went on to share Oliver’s “final wish” - a foundation established in his name - which he’d detailed in his will.
The post continued: “His legacy will live on through his foundation/endowment named 'Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Grant For Baby Geniuses' coming soon.
“This is something that Oliver had put together before his passing, written in his will.
“We will make sure his wish comes to fruition so that more joy, love and art can be spread into the world. That was his final wish."
