Robert Irwin would love to play James Bond saving the world from "habitat destruction".

The 22-year-old TV star and conservationist is yet to land his first big acting role, and while fellow Australian Jacob Elordi is rumoured to be the next 007, the son of late Crocodile Hunter legend Steve Irwin has a perfect way to match Bond with his family's legacy.

Asked by The Watchlist if he'd be interested in the role, Robert quipped: "If Jacob pulls out, I'm there. I don’t know if my first role can be James Bond, but I wouldn't say no.

"A khaki tux? Obviously! And the villain would be habitat destruction."

Robert has been keeping busy lately, including working at his family's Australia Zoo, and filming the likes of spinoff show Dancing With The Stars: The Next Pro.

He added: "I can't stand being still; it makes me physically ill. That's not even an analogy. I actually get physically nauseous if I'm inside.

"I have to just always be going. If I don't, I don't sleep. I feel like I'm going to just pass out."

Despite loving the grind, Robert admitted he often says "yes to too much".

He explained: "I say yes to everything, but when I go home, the real work for Australia Zoo and my conservation projects begins. My day job starts when I get back... I love that."

Last month, Amazon MGM confirmed the hunt for a new James Bond was officially underway.

Daniel Craig quit his role as the superspy following the release of 2021's No Time To Die, which showed 007's death.

He was followed out of the door by longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, but the franchise is being continued back by Amazon MGM, with Dune's Denis Villeneuve directing and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the script.

Now studio bosses have confirmed auditions have started, saying in a statement: "The search for the next James Bond is underway.

"While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right."

Variety reports Amazon MGM bosses have brought in star casting agent Nina Gold- who has worked on the Star Wars franchise as well as Les Miserables and The Martian - to help find the next 007.

Speculation about who is going to be cast has as Bond has been running wild in recent months with stars including Damson Idris, Jacob Elordi and Callum Turner all rumoured to be in the running for the coveted role.
