Debra Messing is considering moving to Israel because she feels "safest there".

The 57-year-old Will and Grace star - who is Jewish and was born and raised in New York City - has confessed she's struggled with online hate in recent years after sharing her opinions on social media and speaking out against anti-Semitism - revealing she needed help from a therapist after battling depression.

Speaking to Sky News at a Jewish Communal Appeal (JCA) event in Sydney, Australia over the weekend (30-31.05.26), she explained: "It has been the hardest thing I've ever experienced.

"It has been a real struggle, and it has been up and down. I felt incredibly depressed for a period, and I felt enraged, and I really needed help from a therapist."

She also revealed she's considering moving from the US to Israel and is in the process of applying for dual citizenship.

Debra said: "There was a moment where I was feeling like the United States was no longer safe. Especially in New York City.

"When I'm in [Israel], that is home, and regardless of all of the missiles, I feel safest there."

During the interview with Sky News, Debra admitted she felt "abandoned" by her Hollywood pals after sharing her opinions following the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.

She said: "I remember sitting in my kitchen and watching the news and going cold and feeling paralysed. The shock was instant, and the trauma and fear and grief were instant.

"I feel like my life is everything before October 7 and everything after ... I really expected the Hollywood community to join me. My entire career I'd been part of this very liberal, inclusive community.

"I felt betrayed and abandoned. I felt like I was completely alone, and I know that isn't special to me ... and I have lost so many friends."

She went on to insist she still feels hopeful about the future, saying" "What gives me hope is that we’re still here after 3000 years, and we’re here to bring light into the dark, and we are living in a darker time, but we are still showing our light, and we will get through this together."
