Stephen Amell reveals if David Hasselhoff has been in touch about Baywatch reboot
Baywatch is coming back, and Stephen Amell will play the son of David Hasselhoff's character Mitch Buchannon.
Stephen Amell hopes David Hasselhoff will give him some "advice" for Baywatch.
The 45-year-old actor has been cast as Hobie, the son of the Hoff's iconic character Mitch Buchannon from the original 1990s series, in the upcoming revival for Fox, but he's yet to get a chance to pick the brain of the 73-year-old star.
He told Extra: "I certainly would welcome the advice. My character is trying to survive his father’s… very long shadow.”
Jessica Belkin has been cast as Hobie’s daughter Charlie in the reboot series, and she's excited to have a connection to David's memorable role.
She added: "I'm technically related to him in TV world. I'm the granddaughter. So that's pretty iconic."
Jessica described wearing the iconic red swimsuit as a "dream come true".
The cast also features Hassie Harrison as Olympian and lifeguard Nat, who revealed that Baywatch creator Greg Bonin was on hand to give them some advice.
Referencing the show's slow mo runs, she admitted: “Slow motion is a funny thing because it either makes you look like the coolest person in the world or the lamest and there's no in between.
"But luckily Greg Bonin, who created the original Baywatch, is one of the producers on our show and he's given us some tips to how Pamela [Anderson] did it.”
Jessica revealed the tip was more about the practical side of the stunt.
She explained: "If you're standing in the sand, he said to dig in your toes, kind of like you’re wearing heels, and it makes your legs and your body just look longer.”
Pamela became one of the most recognisable faces of 1990s television through her portrayal of C.J. Parker in the lifeguard drama.
However, it was recently reported she turned down an approach from producers about appearing on the new show.
A source close to production said: “Pamela was approached – and she passed. She’s done with that chapter. She’s focused on where she’s going – not where she’s been. That era doesn’t define her anymore.”
The insider added that producers are aiming to introduce a fresh cast and updated storyline to bring the franchise into a new era, rather than relying on original stars for nostalgia-driven appearances.
The original Baywatch, which ran from 1989 to 2001, became one of the most-watched television series in the world, launching Anderson and co-stars such as Hasselhoff and Carmen Electra (Lani McKenzie) into international fame and defining a generation of 90s pop culture.
