Sandra Bullock lost her longtime partner, Bryan Randall to Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in August 2023.
Sandra Bullock reportedly took a four-year career break to "heal" following the death of her longtime partner Bryan Randall to Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
The photographer lost his three-year battle with the terminal neurodegenerative disease, which causes progressive muscle weakness, in August 2023 at the age of 57.
And it has been said that actress Sandra, who cared for Bryan, ensured she and her children, son Louis, 16, and 11-year-old daughter Laila - whom she adopted in 2010 and 2015, respectively - were in a good place before she reappeared in the public eye on Tuesday (14.04.26) at CinemaCon, Las Vegas.
A source told People: "After everything she went through with Bryan, she needed time to care for herself.
"She spent a lot of time healing, being with her kids and being at home. She needed to ensure that she and her kids were in the best possible place for her to go back to work."
Bryan - who met Sandra, 61, in 2015 after hiring him to film her son's fifth birthday party in 2015 - is survived by his 31-year-old daughter Skylar Staten Randall.
In 2022, the Oscar-winning star opened up about her career hiatus and said she wanted to be fully present with her family and children - which is now what matters most.
Appearing on an episode of ABC's Good Morning America, Sandra said: "Right now I don't want to create anything that takes me away from just being present.
"I don't want to be doing a lot of things at one time that don't service the one thing that I want to be around - my family.
"Because of my job, I have to go away for long chunks during the day. I take them everywhere, but that's a 15-hour day, and then you come home, and if you're producing, you're on calls. They miss you."
The Practical Magic cast member added: "I look at my life before my kids, and I don't want to say it felt like a waste of time; it just felt like I was rushing to a destination that didn't exist. Now I'm here, and I don't want to be anywhere else."
Sandra - who appeared at CinemaCon on Tuesday as part of Warner Bros' presentation in announcing upcoming movies, including Practical Magic 2, which is set for a September 11 release - previously declared Bryan as the "love of her life".
Appearing on a 2021 episode of Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett-Smith, The Proposal actress said: "We share two beautiful children 0 three children, his older daughter [Skylar]. It’s the best thing ever.
"I don’t need a paper to be a devoted partner… I don’t need to be told to weather a storm with a good man. He’s the example that I would want my children to have."
Sandra was previously married to 56-year-old TV personality-and-entrepreneur Jesse James from 2005 until 2010.
