Split Fiction dev Hazelight is working on a new game, studio boss Josef Fares reveals
Following the success of Split Fiction, Hazelight Studios has started to work on its next game.
Split Fiction developer Hazelight Studios is already hard at work on its next project, studio founder Josef Fares has confirmed.
The tease came directly from Fares, who posted a behind-the-scenes photo on X showing himself inside a motion-capture studio alongside several actors in full mocap suits.
With a carefully placed arm obscuring their identities, the image was accompanied by a simple caption: “Next game in the making.”
Hazelight quickly joined in, joking that the studio was “back in the kitchen, cookin’ up something really delicious” and dubbing Fares’ pose “Strategic Arm Placement Tech”.
Details about the new title remain scarce, but this isn’t the first time Fares has acknowledged its existence.
He previously revealed that Hazelight began early work on the project in 2025, with ideas and story concepts already taking shape.
At the time, Fares said he was “super, super excited” about what the team was building.
Hazelight’s confidence is understandable, as Split Fiction was a major commercial hit - selling two million copies in its first week alone, with the first one million sales coming within 48 hours.
The game’s performance was strong enough to earn praise from publisher Electronic Arts, which highlighted it as a key contributor to a robust financial quarter.
While nothing has been confirmed about the new game’s genre or mechanics, Hazelight’s track record offers some clues.
The studio is best known for narrative-driven, co-op-focused experiences such as It Takes Two, and Fares has repeatedly said he has no interest in making traditional single-player or live-service titles.
Fares has also recently confirmed the “first version of the script” for the Split Fiction movie has been shown to him.
