Dambuster Studios has quietly confirmed it is focusing on Dead Island 3, with a new financial report pointing to a planned release window in the first half of 2028.

The details emerged via the studio’s latest annual filings, which confirm Dambuster’s “primary focus” is on the upcoming zombie title.

The filings read: “After [the] release of Dead Island 2 Ultimate Edition in October 2024, the primary focus for Dambuster Studio is now Dead Island 3.”

The report adds that “all developers are assigned to the project and once the Luna and Mac versions of Dead Island 2 are complete all of Dambuster’s QA team will also be assigned to Dead Island 3”.

Development is still at an early stage, but progress is already underway.

According to the document, “parts of the game are now in early production with feature, character, world and story design moving at pace”.

Based on current projections, “the current predicted release window for the project is Q1/Q2 2028”.

While no gameplay details have been shared publicly, the timeline suggests Dead Island 3 is being built squarely for modern hardware, with a likely launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

By the time it arrives, Dead Island 3 may also overlap with the next generation of consoles expected later in the decade.

The report also outlines the challenges ahead, noting that the studio’s main risks stem from “having the right vision and mission to know which games are trending in 3–5 years, staying on top of engineering standards of AAA games as well as having the right talented team available for working on the projects”.

Dead Island 3 was subtly teased earlier this year when Dambuster celebrated Dead Island 2 reaching 20 million players, stating the outbreak was “far from over” and hinting that the next chapter may move beyond Los Angeles.
