Escape from Tarkov developer Battlestate Games has apologised for the extraction shooter’s turbulent 1.0 launch.

Game director Nikita Buyanov addressed the community directly on X, thanking players for the “overwhelming interest” but admitting the debut was “rough for sure” due to the title’s rocky technical performance.

Buyanov said servers were “getting full really fast,” prompting the studio to add capacity worldwide, and committed to “finally crack[ing] the performance problems, outdated stuff and legacy bugs” that continue to frustrate players.

Tarkov’s 1.0 update arrived alongside its long-awaited Steam release, but user reviews currently sit at “Mixed,” fuelled by reports of freezes, matchmaking delays and erratic AI behaviour.

In a separate post on Steam, Battlestate reiterated that “unforeseen situations may arise” despite extensive preparation and credited player bug reports for helping the studio triage early issues.

The team is already issuing technical hotfixes, including corrections for broken character models, lighting bugs, PostFX instability and cases where bots would teleport or fly into the air, and said more updates are imminent.

The studio is also investigating launcher download errors, trader-related glitches and problems triggered by Nvidia’s Smooth Motion setting, recommending players disable it for now.

To compensate players for the rocky rollout, Battlestate will distribute two in-game gear sets - Bear Classic and USEC Night Patrol - with alternative rewards provided for anyone who already owns them.

Buyanov stressed that Battlestate is “willing to continue fighting” to improve Tarkov’s stability and performance, promising months of ongoing fixes as the shooter’s new era on Steam gets underway.
