Spotify rolls out in-app messaging
Spotify has made it easier to share your favourite audio content - without leaving the app.

Spotify is giving users a new way to share their favourite audio content directly within the platform.
Responding to widespread demand, the streaming giant has introduced a dedicated DMs section that allows listeners to send songs, podcasts, and audiobooks to friends and family—all without leaving the app. The move marks a significant step toward making Spotify not just a listening destination, but a social hub for audio discovery.
Spotify said in a statement: “Users have told us that they want a dedicated space within the app to share their next favorite song, podcast or audiobook.
“We’re excited to continue offering more ways to drive hype for the Spotify content you love.”
The feature is designed to streamline sharing and make recommendations easier to track. Users can initiate a message by tapping the share icon on the Now Playing screen, selecting a recipient, and sending the content. The recipient will then receive a message request, which they can accept to begin chatting.
Messages can be accessed by tapping the profile photo in the top-left corner of the app, where users will find their inbox and conversation threads.
Importantly, Spotify emphasised that its new messaging tool is meant to complement—not replace—existing integrations with other social media platforms. “Messages on Spotify is designed to complement these integrations,” the company noted, “not replace them.”
