Jesse Lingard’s stint at Nottingham Forest has come to an end less than a year after he held the title of the club’s highest earner.

Lingard joined Forest on a 12-month contract last summer after his contract with his boyhood club, Manchester United, expired.

But his time at the City Ground has been underwhelming.

Despite being paid a base salary of £115,000 per week along with incentives, Lingard failed to make a significant impact in the Premier League this season. In 17 appearances, he was unable to score a single goal or provide an assist. Miltiadis Marinakis, son of Forest owner Evangelos, played a significant role in persuading Lingard to join the club, even though he had declined an opportunity to return to West Ham.

Lingard did contribute two goals and two assists as Forest reached the semi-finals of the League Cup. However, he faced some injury setbacks towards the end of the season, causing him to miss out as the club secured their Premier League survival.

Forest announced Lingard’s departure alongside the release of five other first-team players – Andre Ayew, Cafu, Jack Colback, Jordan Smith, and Lyle Taylor.

Keylor Navas, Dean Henderson, and Renan Lodi have also returned to their parent clubs following the conclusion of their loan spells.

Forest confirmed Serge Aurier has triggered an automatic one-year extension in his contract.

The full-back has become a crucial player under the guidance of manager Steve Cooper, making 28 appearances and starting 22 Premier League matches since joining the club in September, and as Forest undergoes changes in their squad, they will now be looking to reshape their team and make more improvements ahead of the upcoming season.
