Russell Brand in court: Five damaging assault allegations from one alleged victim

These are the five allegations a woman, who claims Russell Brand raped her, made in court on Thursday (15.10.26)

Claim 1

The woman told the court she felt like “a zombie on the bed” while Russell Brand allegedly raped her for five to 10 minutes in a hotel room after they met when he performed with a cabaret group at a fringe event during the Labour Party conference in Bournemouth in September 1999.

Crying in the witness box, she added: “It made me feel so dirty and I thought it was my fault. But in those days it was your fault, it was always your fault.”

The alleged victim said Brand’s “snake-like” body and “horrible white budgie smugglers” under his trousers made her “feel sick”.

Claim 2

The woman told the court that Russell Brand became “monster-like” as he allegedly went from being camp, friendly and effeminate to intimidating, and that she found him “frightening”.

During re-examination by prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones KC, she told jurors: “He seemed menacing at that point in time. He was big, I felt threatened, and he’s half-naked.

“I didn’t think at that point his intentions were good.

“He was just dark and arrogant and performing – he was scary, he was demanding. He was the centre of the show, it was like he was back on stage.”

The alleged victim said she initially felt safe because she “actually thought he was gay for lots of reasons”, describing Brand as “very effeminate”, “very softly spoken”, “very gentle in the way he spoke, very attentive, very curious”, as well as playful and intellectual.

Claim 3

The alleged victim told the court that Russell Brand pinned her down on the bed and that she repeatedly told him “no”, adding that women were “just there for him to abuse”.

Defence lawyer Ian Winter KC suggested the woman was attracted to Brand and that they had consensual sex after the alleged rape, before asking why she did not push him off or attempt to escape.

The woman said the weight of his body made it impossible to flee and claimed she struggled to breathe with him on top of her. She said she had her eyes shut while he allegedly “put himself straight in”.

She added: “I couldn’t do anything. I blamed myself for letting him into the room. He didn’t care.”

Claim 4

After Brand allegedly raped the woman, she spent hours washing herself in the bathroom because she felt “so dirty”.

The alleged victim said: “I remember banging my head against the wall.”

Claim 5

The woman said the alleged rape left her having nightmares about being pregnant and that she even contemplated taking her own life.

She alleged that Brand told her not to worry about becoming pregnant or contracting a sexually transmitted infection because he was regularly tested for sexually transmitted diseases.

The woman claimed that the day after the alleged rape, she was in so much pain that she struggled to lift her suitcase, causing her to miss a train.
