Octavia Spencer has responded to the news that her show Ride Or Die has been axed after just one season, insisting that “projects like this shouldn’t be the exception, they should be the rule”.

The 56-year-old actress starred opposite Hannah Waddingham in the Prime Video series, and plays the Ted Lasso star’s best friend, who has no idea that her pal is actually an international assassin.

Despite having positive reviews, it was announced on Monday (21.09.26) that Prime Video didn’t renew the series, so Paramount Television Studios are now looking for a new home for the show.

However, Octavia seems unsure that the programme will be picked up elsewhere, as she took to Instagram to reflect on the cancellation.

Alongside a screenshot of a headline announcing the news, Octavia wrote: “Apparently, THIS was the best weekend for me to get sick because, well, distractions!

“I hope every creative out there gets to have the incredible experience that I’ve had bringing this project to life with the unwavering support from Skydance/Paramount these past three years.

“Projects like this shouldn’t be the exception, they should be rule! For all the women out there who felt seen, laughed out loud, lived out loud with Debbie and Judith, thank you. This was a fun one!”
