Widow's Bay has beaten the record for the comedy series with the most Emmy Awards in one season.

The Apple TV horror comedy had been shortlisted for 19 prizes and came home with a total of 14, eight of which it picked up during last weekend's ceremonies, and an additional six, including the coveted Outstanding Comedy Series, which were won on Monday (14.09.26).

The haul surpassed the record 13 which The Studio received last year.

Monday's ceremony also saw acting wins in the supporting categories for Kate O'Flynn and Stephen Root, and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Matthew Rhys, who himself made history as a double winner by also taking the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for the Beast In Me.

Accepting his comedy prize, Matthew paid tribute to creator Katie Dippold, who had won the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series award: "Stephen Root was right. This is purely because of the depraved and twisted mind of Katie Dippold. And her genius really does live in the recesses of her disturbed brain.”

The show's haul was rounded out by a directing honour for Hiro Murai.
