The 32-year-old pop star was shooting the promo for her single Changes at the Eryri National Park and she was wearing a long, white dress while filming scenes in the water but she is said to have struggled to swim as the gown's fabric became too heavy and wrapped around her legs - and a bodyguard had to dive in and pull her out.
A source told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: "The idea was that Becky would swim out into the middle of the lake, in a long white dress, and then go on to her back and float while singing Changes.
"The shoot started off fine but, when Becky got out to a depth where she could no longer stand up in the lake, and she tried to go on to her back, her dress got caught around her legs.
"The material was heavy because of the water and, coupled with how cold it was in there, she started to struggle and was panicking. Her bodyguard realised what was happening and capsized his canoe as he made a dive into the water to get Becky.
"He was amazing, as were as the rest of Becky’s team, and she was taken to safety."
The publication reports Becky recovered from the scare and wanted to go back into the water to continue filming but she was persuaded to ditch the lake sequence and film those scenes in a controlled water tank instead.
The insider added: "Becky was in shock, initially, but then wanted to go back into the water to try again. Her team persuaded her it wouldn’t work.
"She is so ambitious and loved the visual they wanted to create, so ended up reshooting it but this time in a water tank."
Changes appears on Becky's third album Rebecca, which is due for release on November 13.
The singer previously revealed the new album "felt like a form of BDSM".
She told NME: “Rebecca means ‘to tie’ or ‘to bind’. I’ve known that since I was a little girl, and I’ve always thought it was a weird thing for a name to mean. "But this album has very much felt like a form of BDSM. There’s a lot of that contrast between pleasure and pain."
Becky noted that "sometimes you can love something so much that it causes you pain and you can trick yourself into thinking painful things are pleasurable because you care about it so much".
She continued: "I just felt more empowered to be pulled in different directions. There are a few themes across the record, and Rebecca felt like an authentic, meaningful way to tie all those together. It’s a true embodiment of who I have felt like since I turned 30."
