'It’s so boring': Meryl Streep doesn't want movies to "Marvel-ize" characters

The Devil Wears Prada 2 star Meryl Streep doesn't want movies to "Marvel-ize" characters.

Meryl reprises her role as feared fashion editor Miranda Priestly in the sequel to 2006's The Devil Wears Prada and she's confessed she was happy to show her character's softer side in the second film because humans are more than just heroes and villains and films should reflect that.

During an appearance on the Hits Radio Breakfast Show, Meryl explained: "I feel like you get a realistic view [in this film]. I think when we tend to Marvel-ize the movies now – we got the villains and we got the good guys – and it’s so boring.

"And what’s really interesting about life is that some of the heroes are flawed and some of the villains are human and interesting and have their own strengths. So that’s what I like about this [film]. It’s messier."

The Devil Wears Prada 2 reunites Meryl Streep with her co-stars Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci and Anne previously admitted filming the second movie was "one of the most hilarious experiences ever".

The 43-year-old star confessed she was "stressed and anxious", but working alongside Emily, Stanley and Meryl gave her a huge boost.

She told PEOPLE magazine: "I loved making the first. I know I was stressed and anxious and all those things, but it’s one of the most hilarious experiences ever because of the people I was with."
