Britney Spears has checked into rehab.
The 44-year-old pop star's representatives confirmed on Sunday (12.04.26) that the singer has voluntarily entered a treatment facility five weeks after she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol (DUI) in Ventura, California in early March.
A source told PEOPLE that Britney made the decision to enter rehab as a way of "moving forward", saying: "People close to Britney encouraged her to seek treatment.
"She understands the seriousness of her situation and felt this was the best step moving forward. She's now seeking treatment."
Another insider told New York Post column PageSix that Britney is determined to put her mental health first, adding: "Everyone just wants Britney to be healthy and in a good place and the fact that this was her decision just proves how dedicated she is to her own recovery and getting herself back on solid ground."
The source went on to add Britney doesn't have a set time frame for her treatment, saying: "She doesn’t know yet [how long she will be there].
"This isn’t for a set 30 or 60 day program. It will take as long as she needs. She’s not setting a limit on herself."
