‘There is nothing to believe in anymore. I'm an atheist, y'all...' Did you know these 5 stars have denounced God?

Not all celebrities draw inspiration from faith - some are guided by reason, scepticism or personal philosophy. From science advocates to outspoken critics of religion, these well-known figures have openly identified as atheists, challenging beliefs and sparking conversations across the world...

Angelina Jolie

The Tomb Raider star was dubbed a "creature of extremes" in her early years as she prefers marching to the beat of her own drum.

She said: “There doesn’t need to be a God for me. There’s something in people that’s spiritual, that’s godlike. I don’t feel like doing things just because people say things, but I also don’t really know if it’s better to just not believe in anything, either."

Dame Emma Thompson

The Matilda star does not follow any religion because she finds the doctrines to be "oppressive" to women.

She said: "The reason that I am an atheist in so far as the world religions that we have, is because I have seen them oppress so many women for so long. So, to me, religion is the history of the oppression of women."

Jodi Foster

Just because Jodie is an atheist doesn't mean she doesn't celebrate religious holidays, across multiple faiths.

She said: "People are always surprised when I say that I'm an atheist. In my home, we ritualise all of them. We do Christmas. We do Shabbat on Fridays. We love Kwanzaa. I take pains to give my family a real religious basis, a knowledge, because it's being well educated. You need to know why all those wars were fought".

Daniel Radcliffe

The Harry Potter star may have been raised Jewish, but in the years since starring as the world's most famous wizard, he’s shifted his entire belief system admitting he is now a "militant" atheist.

He said: "I’m not religious, I’m an atheist, and a militant atheist when religion starts impacting on legislation. We need sex education in schools. Schools have to talk to kids from a young age about relationships, gay and straight."

Emma Watson

Though the Noah actress doesn't totally rule out the existence of a higher power, she's not one for labels.

She said: "I had a sense that I believed in a higher power, but that I was more of a Universalist. I see that there are these unifying tenets between so many religions and I'm really interested in those things that are more far-reaching than culture, nationality, race or religion."
