Cynthia Erivo isn't "chasing" EGOT status.
The Wicked star is "three-quarters of the way" to joining the exclusive club of award winners - who all have an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony Award - but she has missed out on an Oscar three times and Cynthia has now insisted claiming the quadruple isn't a priority for her.
She told Stylist magazine: "I’ve actually never said that I want an EGOT, but it keeps coming at me. Before I went to the US, I didn’t know it was a thing until I was three-quarters of the way there.
"It would be amazing to complete the four, but that’s not the reason I’m doing my job. The reason I do what I do is because I love the connection I get to make with people.
"The most thrilling thing is to stand in front of an audience, sing a song and see a person look into your eyes and sing it back to you. That’s so much more rewarding than an award.
"So an EGOT: how grand and glorious that would be. But that’s not the thing I’m chasing. Because once that happens, then what? It has to be bigger than that."
