Blood isn’t always thicker than water, and sometimes the family portrait hides more than it shows.

Brooklyn Beckham blew up the perfect image of the Beckham family this week with an Instagram statement that sent shockwaves around the globe.

He said: "I don't want to reconcile with my family. I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life".

But Brooklyn is far from the only celebrity to cut their families out of their lives...

1. Macaulay Culkin

He is famous for being Home Alone, and that's how Culkin likes it when it comes to his own father.

Culkin hasn’t spoken to his father in decades after kicking him out of the toxic family frame.

2. Angelina Jolie

While she may have reunited briefly with her father, actor Jon Voight, on the set of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Angelina is now estranged from him.

Jolie, who took her mother's maiden name, to forge her own path in Hollywood outside her father's significant acting shadow, recalled a turbulent childhood growing up.

She said: "I don't want to make public the reasons for my bad relationship with my father. I didn't feel that close to my father. I felt more of my mother's daughter when I was a child. The amount of tears shed growing up, and the amount of screaming matches, and the amount of insecurities seen [impacting] on my mother and my brother because of fights and things said, is simply not healthy."

3. Adele

The Easy on Me singer's life was anything but easy growing up. Adele distanced herself from her dad after a rocky childhood.

She was estranged from her father, Mark Evans, for most of her life after he abandoned her and her mother, Penny Adkins, when the singer was three.

4. Drew Barrymore

The E.T. star’s childhood was far from ordinary. After a turbulent, unconventional upbringing, Drew Barrymore became legally emancipated at just 14, estranged from her mother, Jaid Barrymore. Though they’ve since reconciled enough for Drew to provide support and care, their bond has never been traditionally close - proving even Hollywood’s golden girls can have messy family scripts.

5. Britney Spears

As of late 2025 and early 2026, Britney Spears remains largely estranged from her parents Jamie and Lynne and sister Jamie Lynne following the end of her 13-year conservatorship which was terminated by a judge in 2021.

In her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me and subsequent social media posts, the Toxic hitmaker expressed deep feelings of betrayal, stating she never wants to see her immediate family again.
