Sir Michael Caine will be offered a role in the next Now You See Me movie despite previously vowing to retire from acting.

The 92-year-old Zulu star appeared in the first two magical heist films but was absent from the cast of the third movie - Now You See Me: Now You Don't - after he stepped away from acting in 2023. However, Caine has since signed up for another job - appearing in Vin Diesel's The Last Witch Hunter 2 which is due for release next year - and Now You See Me: Now You Don't director Ruben Fleischer is hoping to get the actor back on board for the fourth film.

Fleischer told The Hollywood Reporter: "I think that [Caine reversing his retirement plan] was only revealed after we were done shooting [Now You See Me: Now You Don't].

"But if we’re lucky enough to make another Now You See Me, we will definitely give him a call."

Caine first went public with his retirement plans in 2009 following the release of his crime drama Harry Brown, but he reversed the decision and carried on working until 2021 when he bowed out again.

However, he came back with Medieval in 2022 and The Great Escaper in 2023 when he once again vowed to quit acting for good.

During an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, he said: "I’ve figured, I’ve had a picture where I’ve played the lead and it’s got incredible reviews.

"The only parts I’m likely to get now are old men, 90-year-old men, maybe 85. And I thought: 'Well, I might as well leave with all this – I’ve got wonderful reviews. What have I got to do to beat this?'"

However, he went on to hint he could return again, telling the Guardian newspaper he wanted to play Charles Darwin onscreen, saying: "And that’ll be it. I won’t do another one after."

When asked if he is sure this time, Caine replied: "No! But the point is, can you do it? Can you remember all the lines?

"I’ve got used to not working and staying in bed till 11am and staying out late at night. I love it."
