Idris Elba is reuniting with Ruth Wilson for a new Luther film

Idris Elba is reuniting with Ruth Wilson for a new Luther film.

The 53-year-old actor is reprising his role as the titular detective in a new Netflix movie, and his former castmate - who was part of the original BBC series but absent from 2023's Luther: The Fallen Sun - will join him for the upcoming feature.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Elba and Wilson - who play John Luther and Alice Morgan respectively - will be joined by Dermot Crowley, reprising the role of detective Martin Schenk.

Jamie Payne will be at the helm, having directed Fallen Sun, as well as episodes of the BBC show.

He said in a statement: “Neil [Cross] has yet again, created a wonderfully dark tale to bring us all back together.

"It’s a true joy to be back on the streets of Lutherland with the supreme talents that are Idris Elba and Dermot Crowley.

"I am also thrilled to be reunited with the brilliant and dangerous Alice Morgan played by the extraordinarily talented Ruth Wilson.”
