The 36-year-old Vampire Diaries actress and the 39-year-old sports star recently called off their engagement, ending their five-year relationship, but friends insist there is “no drama here”.

A source told Us Weekly: “There was no drama here. No cheating was involved. They were loyal to each other their entire relationship. At the end of the day, they’re human beings, just like everyone else. They genuinely just grew apart and saw they would be better off just as friends and not husband and wife.”

Another friend claimed the couple were actually planning their wedding when they decided to split.

The source said: “They had finally started planning the wedding and things were in motion. It’s still very fresh, but she’s been supported by her closest girlfriends who have been checking in on her.”

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Nina is devastated by the break-up.

A source told PEOPLE: "She is devastated. There was one reason: She wanted a family and wanted to get married - and he didn't."
