Twiggy admits it was “very emotional” watching the scenes with her late parents in her new documentary.

In an exclusive interview with BANG Showbiz at the premiere of ‘Twiggy’ held at Vue Cinema in London’s Leicester Square on Thursday night (06.03.25), she said: “Most people have a photo album of their life. To see yourself eight foot, ten-foot, high, seeing my mum and dad, who aren’t with us anymore, seeing myself that young. I can’t believe I was that young!”

The documentary ‘Twiggy’ — directed by ‘Quant’ director and ‘Bram Stoker's Dracula’ actress Sadie Frost — became available for wide release in the UK and Ireland on Friday (07.03.25).

Twiggy — whose real name is Dame Lesley Lawson — was just 16 when she skyrocketed to fame, from schoolgirl to model, in 1966. She appeared on the cover of Vogue, and went on to become one of the most recognizable faces of the swinging ‘60s and an international fashion icon.

The 75-year-old fashion icon said she grew emotional while watching the film ‘Twiggy’ and “reliving all the moments, the sad moments, the happy moments.”

She came from a working-class background, unlike most models in the 1960s. She grew up in northwest London to her parents Norman, a carpenter, and Nell, a factory worker, who passed away at 81 and 91 years old.

She told The Guardian in 2014: “The biggest qualities they instilled in me are to be kind, loyal, not to suffer fools gladly, and that family is really important.”

Gaining such celebrity status at such a young age, Twigg faced sexism, comments on her body, and heartbreak.

She said at the premiere, “I think Sadie’s done an amazing job” capturing her journey on screen.

Twiggy said seeing her legendary modeling, acting, and design career — from age 16 to age 75 — play out on screen brought up a lot of memories.

She said: “When it was happening to me, I felt so grown up. When you’re 16, you think, ‘Oh, I’m so grown up’. But when I watched it, I realized how young I was.”

Twiggy remains in the spotlight through various campaigns, including as a celebrity ambassador for makeup brand Charlotte Tilbury.
