John Goodman recovered from a fractured hip in an "old-age home".

The 74-year-old actor was taken to hospital while filming Digger after falling over co-star Tom Cruise, but fortunately the Mission: Impossible star's medical connections ensured he received swift treatment before undergoing two weeks of rehabilitation treatment in London.

He told the Sunday Times magazine: “I was stupidly wearing stockinged feet, no shoes. I went past Tom, my feet slid out and I went down parallel on my left hip.

“Tom’s physician was on set and one of his best friends is an osteopath, so I was operated on the next morning.”

Of his rehab, he added: “In a medical facility. Actually, an old-age home.

"Then I went home and hit it every day, physically pushed it and got it done.”

John appreciated Tom's "intense" attitude to work and "had a ball" working with him on the movie, even though his co-star was largely immersed in character during filming.

“He’s intense but for me it was good. He never prodded me or anything like that, but I wanted to keep up with him, the little b******. He’s a good energy pill. We had a ball.

“But it was so odd. Every month or so Tom Cruise would show up instead of Digger. I reckon the make-up was eating his face at one point and it was getting harder. But yeah, I didn’t see Tom but a couple of times.”

Meanwhile, after getting sober in 2007 and overcoming his struggles with overeating, the former Roseanne star admitted he has "lost the trust" he used to have in his acting ability.

He said: “I’ve lost the trust that I used to have in myself. It’s totally unnecessary because once I start doing the work, everything’s fine. Perhaps I need hypnosis or a performance coach, or a good stick of dynamite.”

At the time of John's injury, production was paused on Alejandro González Iñárritu's film.

A Warner Bros. Pictures spokesperson said in a statement at the time: “Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury. He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”

Insiders told Deadline that John had slipped over last week while blocking a scene at Pinewood Studios and was taken to hospital for treatment on a relatively "minor injury".

Filming was halted for two days.
