Ariel Winter left Los Angeles for a "normal life" - and "snow".

The Modern Family actress grew up in California and, while she is often in the area for work, she bought a house in Tennessee in May 2022, and she much prefers the quieter life she lives out there.

She told the New York Post newspaper's Page Six column: “I would prefer to not live in LA.

“I don’t really love LA, but I have all of my people there, which I think is what makes it really tough to leave.

“I grew up in LA and just really wanted a change of pace. LA is busy, and I was hoping to just get away a little and see what that change does for me. I wanted seasons and snow!

“I also wanted to get away from paparazzi, and just live a normal life and it gave me that."

But the 28-year-old star couldn't leave Los Angeles permanently because all of the people she loves are there.

She said: “All my family, my friends, everyone’s [in LA]. I think that is what I love so much about LA – just that, not LA [itself].

"[Nashville is] just so peaceful and calm, and normal in a way that LA isn’t. I really would prefer to live there, probably. I don’t have my people there so much. I have some people, but my family’s not there, and that’s tough.”

When she is in Los Angeles, Ariel stays with her former Modern Family co-star Nolan Gould, who will always be "family" to her.

She said: “That is my brother. Best friends since the beginning. We are family without a doubt. I love him so much. He’s the best, and living together is so fun. It’s just been the best experience ever.”

Ariel previously joked living with Nolan was like having their "own little Modern Family reboot" and they had considered taking cameras into their home life.

She told People magazine: "It's funny because I spend more time out here now and I rent a house with Nolan.

"People ask me about a Modern Family reboot, but Nolan and I are real roommates now.

"It's like we're having our own little Modern Family reboot, but it's just the two of us living together. So I see him every day.

"I'm not gonna lie, when we sit there at night and we watch, like, Temptation Island together, it's pretty hilarious.

“So we have thought about [sharing] it. We're just like, ‘People would find this really funny.’"
